Strange Behaviour bring you ‘No Cash Left on the Premises’ from Wellington band Call Centre

Strange Behaviour are excited to bring you their latest trip into leftfield electronica, with the release of Call Centre’s extended player No Cash Left on the Premises.
Based in Wellington, Call Centre are a four-piece band whose wide-ranging influences have shaped a sound that sits somewhere between improvised post-rock and ambient tinged techno, underlined by a healthy dose of pure weirdness.
Playing together since mid-2019, Ed, Finn, Joel, and Matt, have slowly developed from sharing ideas in the jam room into a fully fleshed musical ensemble which is enjoyably unclassifiable, exploring the nether regions between post-rock (think Tortoise, Slint, Bowery Electric) and ambient/IDM (Gas, Four Tet, Burial).
“We operate in a pretty wide window between string ensemble post-rock and entirely electronic or ambient compositions, and it turns out there’s a lot of good places to explore between those two pillars”, says Finn.
“Our live sets can be unpredictable in that sense. Some people show up not knowing what to expect, and by the end, they say they still aren’t really sure how to describe us. We’ve been avoiding having to describe it to ourselves too”.
While this might suggest all out experimentation, No Cash Left on the Premises is a completely focused work, many of the tracks conceived as independent endeavours as long ago as 2018, then slowly honed collaboratively into the cohesive project that Call Centre is today.
Pulling together field recordings, drones, manipulated samples, and layering organic instrumentation throughout, Call Centre’s approach creates beautiful juxtapositions between the experimental and sublime – leading the listener on a beguiling journey that ultimately proves a rewarding challenge.
Call Centre are also part of the BONDST collective, a self-described industrial space which holds parties for like minds, and a subconscious influence on the band members and their process.
Strange Behaviour is a party, radio show and record label. They have released music by Ludus, Peace Point, Box of Hammers, Saint Mercury, Stephen Gallagher and more.
