Pistol Youth, Blowing Away The Competition!

After eight years nonstop with his kiwi band Steriogram, a restless creative feeling was stirring within Bradley Hanan Carter. Reading about Ben Gibbard & The Postal Service, it inspired him to get together some friends and start his own long distance project across the internet. Adamant that he had been forced to grow up much too quickly he called the project Pistol Youth. Anders Borgh the Swedish bassist entered the picture when he was an exchange student in 1997 staying with Carters family in Whangarei, the two had always agreed to one day do a project together. Michael Guy Chislett the Australian guitarist became friends with Carter around 1999, Chislett was visiting NZ with his band Abel. He now plays for Chicago based band The Academy Is. Gavin Kerr the kiwi drummer was a good friend of Carters and played for Channel Z darlings Wash he was final person enlisted to join. The project came together smoothly and shortly after recording & releasing the bands first EP “Smiling Can Backfire” in 2007 Carter invited the other members of Pistol Youth to come visit in LA so they could finally meet each other and mess around with writing music together in the same room.

Pistol Youth, who could be the Four Corners of rock bands seeing as they have members from four different countries around the world, do a muscular, relatively lo-fi take on Weezer-y power-pop with their song ‘In My Eyes’. Which [in the video] they play with the gang from ‘Golden Girls’ — well, you should really see it for yourself.” – Pitchfork

What if ‘Windowlicker’ was reshot using footage from ‘The Golden Girls’ Saying anything other than my initial impression would probably spoil the effect, so, to sum Pistol Youth’s new video up for ‘In My Eyes’: Whoa!” – Idolator.com

Pistol Youth ‘In My Eyes’ …I back any video that has anything to do with the Golden Girls.” – FriendsOrEnemies.com

Consider Pistol Youth ‘In My Eyes’ the next step from Spike Jonze’s classic mash-up of Happy Days and Weezer in Buddy Holly” – Videostatic.com
