The Exiles win at the Kodak Music Clip Awards

Pseudo-3d cartoon prison environments and madcap antics characterise the award-winning masterpiece that showcases The Exiles’ trademark mashed up style.

The ‘Hear The People’ video pays homage to prison escape TV-shows… Colditz/Hogan’s Heroes along with all the best early violent cartoons… Wile E. Coyote/Daffy Duck.

“‘Hear The People’ was my most ambitious project to date – a lot of prison-escape gags to fit into 4 minutes – and a lot of physical theatre and mime-acting/goofing around required from the band – the shoot was lots of fun and games – especially them all pretending to be hosed down in the shower =)” – Director Ed Davis

Wellington based Davis is no stranger to these awards, also bagging the top prize in 2003 for Gramsci’s ‘Don’t’ featuring Anika Moa, although this year’s competition attracted a record number of entries – 122 in total.

Davis collaborated with a video-game maker friend in TOKYO (Anthony Flack = www.squashysoftware.com) – to create the pseudo-3d cartoon prison environments.

Auckland band The Exiles are a wild bunch of musicians and songwriters on a mission to mash up urban & classical. The band comprises acclaimed songwriter Sean Sturm, (ex-Nixons and Eye TV), classical violinist Mahuia Bridgman-Cooper, Tosh Graham (ex-Semi Lemon Cola and Propellor), Grahame Cope (Rodger Fox, ex Che Fu’s Krates) and Colin Stanley (Dean Chandler, Mo’Reece)
