Cobalt Blue Announce New Single ‘Body Blow’

With the luxury of time, perhaps a lowered expectation, and some haze-inducing xxxx, a kind of sublime, relaxed psychedelia can be the happy result when you listen to songs from Auckland band Cobalt Blue. Originally formed in 2012 as PURE, the band changed their name to Cobalt Blue in January 2025, a name change which seemed the right fi t with their unique Psychedelic sound.

Band members Steve Laffan (drums, acoustic guitar, vocals) and Paul Lightfoot (electric guitars, vocals) write, record and perform their own original material, and it’s crystal clear these two have been learning new tricks over the last 12 months, as their new material is a noticeable step up from their earlier songwriting efforts.

The release of their brand new Single Body Blow on March 31 2025 represents the continued evolution of this progressive Auckland, New Zealand based band as they explore new horizons in sound. Body Blow showcases their unique blend of melodic, catchy psychedelic guitar rock.

The band have dedicated Body Blow to the late Tauranga Singer / Songwriter Shirley Ryder, a close friend of band member Steve who passed away in late January 2025 after a long tough battle with Cancer. Perhaps the song’s lyrics refl ect this.

Body Blow will be out on March 31 2025 through Distrokid Music Distribution and will be available to download on Spotify / Apple Music / Youtube Music and Pandora.
