Daily J Drop Carnival-Themed ‘Daydreamer’ Video & Announce Tour Supports
Tāmaki Makaurau-based indie psych-pop band Daily J have today unveiled the official video for their track Daydreamer, ahead of their final New Zealand tour before making the jump across the ditch to Australia later in the year.
Filmed on a whim during Adelaide’s Fringe Festival while the band was unexpectedly grounded by Cyclone Alfred, the band teamed up with filmmaker Dylan Martin (@dylanrmartinn) to create a vibrant, carnival-themed visual. With rollercoasters, spontaneous lighting setups, and shooting conditions pushing 30+ degrees, the DIY clip captures the joy, chaos and sweat of a band making the most of a strange detour.
“The rollercoaster shots were definitely sketchy – the camera almost went overboard a couple of times,” Dylan explains. “And those scenes with the intense lighting? That was a sweat fest. It must have been over 30 degrees in Adelaide that day, and everything was set up inside blacked-out containers… big sauna vibes,” he adds.
Produced and mixed by Joe Faris and mastered by Chris Chetland at KOG Mastering, Daydreamer was recorded at Auckland’s Parachute Studios – a dreamy, groove-heavy track capturing the band at their most effortless and euphoric.
The music video lands alongside the announcement of support acts for Daily J’s One For The Road New Zealand tour, their final Aotearoa run before relocating to Australia. Joining the tour are New Zealand up-and-comers Hot Sauce Club, The Darlings, Mirage and George Villa. The eight-date farewell tour kicks off this June and wraps with a final hometown show in Tāmaki Makaurau.
Born in Marlborough and currently based in Auckland, Daily J – comprised of brothers Jayden, Jonny, Jesse and long-time friend Rick – have spent the past few years building a loyal following across New Zealand and abroad. With their signature blend of dreamy indie-rock textures, warm fuzzy-grooves, and pop-laced electronica, the band has made a name for themselves as one of the country’s most exciting live acts.
