James Brodie, is a music producer and songwriter from Te Aroha, New Zealand who writes anthems for messy broken people. The goal has always been to engage culture in conversation about the light and darkness in life, using words and melody to talk about some of the hardest things we feel as humans. This is a songwriter that understands and loves the outsiders, the broken, and the lost. Whether it’s navigating troubled waters, embracing joy and new beginnings, surviving chaos, or looking at life in the mirror, James’s clear and distinctive sound carries across all of these ideas while still bringing hope into the darkest of nights.

James performs with only his guitar, his voice, and stories about recovery and hope in all seasons of life. From struggles with mental health to the vulnerability of recovery and finding hope along the way, James takes off the mask and dives deep into his journey and the music that helped him get through it all.

After releasing his first acoustic project Boyd Park in 2013 and going on to work in underground projects from 2013-2020, James’s collaborative album Lost and Found (released under his last name Brodie) was recorded between August 2020 and April 2024 and was released in September 2024 following a car crash 3 months earlier that left James with significant physical and neurological injuries. During his recovery journey, James slowly began working on a collection of acoustic songs old and new with limited recording gear in ‘The Cabin’, resulting in his new solo album Bridge which is set for release on August 10th 2025 and will be followed by James’s first full-length concerts since the car crash that took him off the road. 2025 will also see the re-release of his debut acoustic project Boyd Park, with details to follow shortly.

James is currently based in Te Aroha, New Zealand and lives in ‘The Cabin’ with his dog Sky.
