Young Moon offers something real with their Orbiting Islands Tour
As artificial intelligence begins to shape the soundscape of modern music – blurring the lines between the generated and the genuine – Young Moon returns with a tour that celebrates the irreplaceable beauty of human connection. Following the release of their double EP Paraverbal Orchids / Young Moon Is A Broken Bone, Young Moon are set to embark on a seven-date ‘Orbiting Islands’ tour across the South Island of Aotearoa/New Zealand this August and September.
In a world increasingly saturated with digital noise and the encroachment of AI into creative spaces, the line between the contrived and the authentic grows ever more blurred. With projects like the AI-generated band Velvet Sundown raising questions about the future of artistry and emotional truth in music, Young Moon’s ‘Orbiting Islands’ Tour stands as a heartfelt antidote. Young Moon is excited to bring real, human connection back to the forefront – sharing the raw, unfiltered emotions that only live music can evoke. These performances are a celebration of presence, vulnerability, and the irreplaceable magic of being together in a room, under the same sky, with sound that’s born from lived experience – not algorithms.
Trevor Montgomery, the creative force behind Young Moon, has been crafting deeply personal and atmospheric music for over a decade. His latest release, Paraverbal Orchids / Young Moon Is A Broken Bone, is a reflection on transformation, grief, and rebirth – written in the wake of a move from San Francisco to Whakatū/Nelson and the loss of a close friend. The double-EP was released via Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington label Home Alone in February and is the first release since Triggered By Sunsets, the sublime full-length album released on Orindal Records USA in 2023.
The tour takes its name from the EP’s first single, The Orbiting Object – a tender, sci-fi -inspired love song that captures the essence of connection and distance. Expect waves of textured guitars, ambient synths, and lyrics that speak to the heart of human experience, as Young Moon brings the sound of Paraverbal Orchids / Young Moon Is A Broken Bone to life across Te Waipounamu.
