PONZ Releases New Single ‘Float’
New Zealand-born artist PONZ (Lauren Ashleigh Pondes) returns with a sleek and emotionally charged single, Float, dropping today, via Let Them Cook Records. Blending dreamy textures with euphoric house production and a striking vocal performance, Float is a genre-crossing moment that captures both movement and meaning.
Written from a place of clarity and instinct, Float explores the kind of connection that feels impossible to ignore – the rush, the tension, and the moment you decide to dive in. “It’s about the inevitability of a connection that feels too powerful to resist,” says PONZ. “It’s about surrendering to the feeling and chasing something real, even if you don’t know how it ends.”
The track began with a topline idea PONZ wrote in her bedroom, later brought to life in collaboration with longtime friend and producer Ben Hollamby. Their creative chemistry helped bring the vision into focus quickly. “Working with Ben is always such a natural process,” she explains. “We didn’t overthink it. It just flowed.”
Sonically, Float leans into ambient house with a warm, expansive palette. The track builds from soft, atmospheric textures into a bold, euphoric drop – mirroring the emotional journey of the lyrics. Full-bodied synths, subtle percussion, and shimmering pads provide a textured bed for PONZ’s vocal, which sits front and center, honest and unfiltered.
It’s a track designed for movement – whether that’s dancing in a club, cruising at golden hour, or zoning out with headphones on. “I’ve been exploring more house sounds lately,” PONZ adds. “It’s been exciting to play with that energy while keeping the writing grounded in what feels real to me. Float really captures that mix of personal and playful.”
PONZ spent the last month traveling through Europe – filming visuals in various cities, beaches, and late-night train rides. “The song has been in my headphones everywhere on this trip,” she says. “It’s added so much life to the release process, and I think it’ll show in how it all comes together visually.”
Float follows a string of releases that have steadily positioned PONZ as an emerging name in the Aotearoa music scene. Known for her ability to blend rich emotional storytelling with clean, danceable production, she continues to push boundaries while staying true to her sound.
