The self-proclaimed “worst band in Tāmaki Makaurau”, Late to Chelsea, is excited to announce the release of their latest single Two Beers.

Releasing on August 9, the new song tells the story of a wild night out after drinking not one, but two beers.

Late to Chelsea have been mainstays of the Auckland punk scene since their formation in 2019.  Their latest track maintains the same old fun provided in their live shows and previous releases, but evolves their style of songwriting, reflecting the bond they’ve formed as bandmates and people.

“Our music should stay fun from time to time. It’s got the silly nature of our previous songs F*** It, Stankface and Centipede. It’s a good separation from a couple of the more serious tracks we’re working on,” guitarist and singer on the track “Dirty” Dave Hulburt said.

Produced by a friend of the band, Faumau, and recorded at Wade River Studios, Two Beers is a fully independent track with all aspects of the song’s recording and release being handled by the band.

Two Beers is by far one of the band’s most complex arrangements to date, going far beyond two guitars, a bass, and drums.

“We had so many random voice samples and sounds in it,” Dirty Dave said. “Visko (who runs Wade River Studios) lent us a didgeridoo, plus we had harmonies, Jack and Sam gave us some opera vocals, a cowbell, even a bongo… I can imagine it was an absolute nightmare for Faumau to mix.”

Dirty Dave said it was “amazing” to see the song finally complete.

“Tone and energy are very punk, while the lyrics are just stupid and rappy. Due to the length of the song, I believe it’s got great replayability, as I find myself usually listening a couple times in a row in the car on the way to work.

Two Beers comes out on August 9 to all major streaming platforms.
