Adult Friends Release ‘Greyhounds (Live From The Inferno)’

On Halloween night, 2024, Adult Friends returned to their old rehearsal space in the Hutt Valley to host a special event: free live music, followed by a screening of Donnie Darko, a film that has deeply influenced the band’s sound. The evening opened with an atmospheric set from Kahukuranui, followed by Adult Friends, with both performances recorded and filmed, leading to a detailed post-production process by Daniel Maslen and Jackson Kidd.
This performance was especially significant for the band, as it was played in front of a small crowd of close friends and family at a venue that’s been integral to their journey. Notably, this show marked a transition for the band with drummer Duvan Coetzee, who played on the debut, replaced by Billy Bathgate. Bathgate’s drumming introduced a fresh energy to the live renditions, giving the performance a distinct dynamic compared to the recorded version.
Rather than rushing into a new album, Greyhounds (Live From The Inferno) marks a celebration of both the band’s evolution and the power of live music. As Jackson Kidd, vocalist and guitarist, puts it: ‘We hope this release inspires people to seek out local performances. Live releases are usually reserved for larger, established bands, but we’re a small punk band from Wellington with just one album. This is our way of sharing the live music experience with our fans.’
