Ardon England Kicks off a New Era with Irresistibly Camp Single ‘Famous’

After turning heads with his debut EP That’s Camp, queer Māori trailblazer Ardon England (Ngāti Kahungunu, Te Āti Awa, Kahuranaki Marae) kicks off a bold new chapter with Famous, the first single from his sophomore EP I’m That Bitch. The track lands 25 September alongside a pop-up laundromat performance in Tāmaki Makaurau – an unconventional launch that mirrors the song’s tongue-in-cheek obsession with “delusional celebrity.”
Produced with long-time collaborator Kez Emm, Famous blends gritty club basslines with playful lyricism, lampooning the thirst for validation we all feel scrolling through highlight reels.
“I wanted to capture that ‘I’ve-just-gone-viral-in-my-own-head’ energy,” Ardon explains. “It’s fun, it’s ridiculous, and it says: even if nobody’s watching, I’m going to act like the cameras are flashing.”
Aotearoa’s electronic scene is vibrant, yet openly queer Māori male voices remain scarce. Ardon’s mission is to shift that reality: “Queer Māori belong on every club stage and playlist, not just Pride line-ups.” To build those bridges, he heads to Australia in September for writing sessions with emerging queer artists in Sydney and Melbourne – laying groundwork for future trans-Tasman collaborations.
