Auckland-based singer-songwriter BEX unveils dreamy new single ‘It’s Always Me’

It’s Always Me is more than just a standard piano ballad. Mastered by Simon Lancelot (Mk.gee, Dijon), the track showcases BEX’s poignant lyricism with a flurry of woodwinds, cascading piano lines, and a driving drum break that builds to a cinematic twist. This is a departure from BEX’s earlier charting singles A New Title and In The Way, which have already gained her recognition on the Radioscope Alt Airplay Charts and SRN Network.
Hailing from Auckland, New Zealand, BEX is part of the growing wave of artists turning overthinking into art. With a background in music performance and production, she brings a deliberate kind of craft to the emotional chaos of being young and self-aware.
Her latest single, It’s Always Me, explores the quiet anxieties that surface at the beginning of a new relationship – the thoughts left unspoken, the internal spirals, and the pressure of not wanting to burden someone you care about.
“Lyrically, this song came from keeping secrets from someone close to me,” BEX explains. “I found myself over analysing everything – my dreams, my thoughts, the smallest details – and feeling increasingly anxious and insecure. I didn’t feel like I could confide in the person who comforted me most, because I didn’t want to worry them. The song is about confession, self-awareness, and ultimately accepting that I was the root of my own distress.”
Blending vulnerability with a natural sense of ease, It’s Always Me highlights BEX’s strength as a songwriter who can articulate complex emotional states with clarity and relatability. It marks another confident step forward for an artist quickly building a reputation for thoughtful, emotionally resonant pop.
“I’m really excited to finally share It’s Always Me,” says BEX. “It’s a very personal song, and I hope listeners see parts of themselves in it.”
