Braving a crazy weather bomb Deva Mahal and Guests played Meow Nui this weekend to launch her new album Future Classic Vol II: Future. With help from Lisa Tomlins, sister Zoe Moon, brother Imon Starr, Aussie/UK based DJ Amba Jaye & Diaxxpora Collective DJ Kindekel (who both opened), keyboardist James Illingworth, bassist Johnny Lawrence, guitarist Jules Blewman, Trombonist Kaito Walley, Louisa Williamson (sax & flute), and drummer Darren Mathiassen the show featured some brilliant soul and funk moments and several heart felt ballads. That set included her dedication to musicians Travel With Me (with help from Lisa and Zoe), a funky rendition of Snakes (with Zoe), a bluesy version of Slow Down, the Black Lives Matter inspired Someone’s Daughter, stunning collabs with Imon Starr, Louisa Williamson and Kaito Walley and a real belter – Will Anything Change – to finish.
