Prince of Kings is a song for our times. Morrell says the song is “an ode to real conversations. Those ones where you might all be disagreeing, but somehow, someway, together you reach a settled conclusion. Perhaps it’s the coffee you share ;)”

The recording process of this track took some unexpected turns.

Morrell says, “I finished the bridge during recording – which was fraught anyway because we were hit by Cyclone Gabrielle: both a storm, and a tornado.

“Suddenly I had to make big production calls and send my producer and musicians home in time to get across the Harbour Bridge safely. Ah! For creatives climate change is just so disruptive. But in a crisis, sometimes putting yourself in someone else’s shoes is the best way to handle these scenarios.

“I was writing and rearranging this song right up until the studio recording – and some in between, once the guys had gone home.

“Having just had regular and specialist training in the UK helped, possibly – coming from singing in a huge festival chorus gave me an edge. It was ‘edgy’ anyway for sure!”

Speaking of choirs, Morrell is singing in Auckland Choral’s A Call For Peace concert on Monday 27th April, to mark ANZAC Day. More information about A Call For Peace.
