Parallel Park Announce Bittersweet Single ‘Empty House’

Pōneke/Whakatū indie-rock band Parallel Park are closing a major chapter with the release of their NZ On Air-funded single and music video, Empty House. Parallel Park formed in 2019 when the members were just starting high school. Empty House is their 6th single, along with a 2022 EP and their self-produced 2024 debut album Growing Taller, which drew acclaim. A Muzic.NZ review praised the band for “creating something very different, unique, and of incredible quality in terms of songwriting, performance and production”, while Max Johns of The Spinoff noted the album was “impressively complete… with range and chops.”
Written and self-produced by members Florence McNabb and Kahu Sanson-Burnett, Empty House captures the bittersweet comfort of a past relationship, reflecting on the closeness that remains even without contact. “The song evokes a lingering sense of connection, describing something lost but still alive in the way it has shaped who I am,” explains Florence.
Written and recorded in 2024, the track received NZ On Air funding for a music video. But with band members scattered across the globe, creativity was needed. The resulting music video relies on contemporary dance to interpret the song’s narrative.
Empty House is now available on all major streaming platforms.
