Imani-J Releases Second LA Written Track ‘me > you’

Haitian-New Zealand artist Imani-J is stepping into a new era with the unapologetic anthem me > you. With its fearless honesty, me > you captures a defining moment of growth, confidence, and self-awareness from an artist unafraid to take up space.
On making me > you Imani J says “I wrote this in LA when I was starting to realize that the relationship I was in was no longer serving me and really only holding me back. It honestly took me being in LA and getting to live my dreams to clock this.”
Travelling from New Zealand to Los Angeles to write music was both exciting and intimidating. While initially nervous about the pressure and talent surrounding the LA music scene, she quickly found herself inspired rather than overwhelmed.
“I thought LA was going to be super intimidating because everyone there is so talented and the standard feels so intense,” she says. “But once I got there, all of my dreams actually started to feel way more achievable just by being there.”
Imani-J has already carved out a powerful presence in both the local and global artist community, her single collaboration with Bam Marley, talk is cheap, is still firing in the NZ top 40 and top 10 airplay charts after debuting in the Aotearoa Hot charts.
This new single, however, comes “from a much more fiery, unapologetic place,” she explains. “Honestly, by the time I wrote it, I was just fed up – and I think you can hear that in the song.”
