Zafado are a five piece Hip-Hop/Funk band with Reggae and Funk-Rock influences.
Zafado are known for their energetic live performances, musicianship and frontman Adam McPhail’s (Iaca Rojo) rap flow. With a cult student following, the Zafado funk is not to be missed.
Zafado formed in Wellington, New Zealand. The lineup consists of Adam McPhail (Vocals), Duncan Petre (Guitar), Quentin Stark (Piano), Soli Fox (Bass), and Tyler Curtis (Drums). Frontman Adam McPhail passed away in March 2026. The band’s music remains as the result of the band’s friendship and mutual inspiration. Adam was instrumental in bringing Zafado together and is the voice of the band.
Zafado has recorded their debut 6-track EP, due for release in July 2026. The EP, Extended Paranoia, showcases the funk-fueled hip-hop sound of Zafado, and follows themes of paranoia and politics. Over the past year, Zafado has built groundswell hype by playing backyard gigs, house parties and shows throughout Wellington. Their most recent headline show was a fundraiser at Moon Bar in Newtown.
