Carnivorous Plant Society EP ‘I Am Always Listening’

With I Am Always Listening, Carnivorous Plant Society build on their own complex mythology: a world of alien flora, strange landscapes and melodic detours.
Bringing together the cinematic world of band-leader Finn Scholes with the deep musical instincts of a group of highly esteemed instrumentalists, the EP sounds both otherworldly and lived-in: playful, handmade and full of the restless energy that has made Carnivorous Plant Society one of Aotearoa’s most beloved and joyous oddities.
It features songs Busy Garden (produced by Cass) and Down the Misty Hill, a song that Carnivorous Plant Society have closed their live set with for roughly a decade. A contender for the New Zealand national anthem, the track finally finds a recorded home here!
The EP is released on 26 June, ahead of a nationwide Arts On Tour run across Aotearoa in July and a triumphant return show at Whammy Bar in Tāmaki Makaurau on 29 August. Dates here
Carnivorous Plant Society is: Cass Basil on Bass (Tiny Ruins, Bic Runga), Tam Scholes on guitar, drummer Alistair Deverick brings a background in sound design for dance and theatre, and Finn Scholes is the fearless leader and architect of Carnivorous Plant Society’s animated musical universe.
