PolarisRadio Reimagines an 80’s Classic with Aidan Verity
PolarisRadio (the musical alias of Dean Moroney) has released a bold reimagining of Belinda Carlisle’s Heaven Is a Place on Earth, featuring the soaring vocals of Aidan Verity.
Rather than simply recreate the iconic 1987 hit, PolarisRadio injects a new energy into the tune. The track opens slowly, building tension before kicking into a much heavier, faster interpretation – layered vocals, big guitars and synths colliding with the unmistakable sound of the 80’s.
It’s a deliberately faithful homage to the original, but with a distinctly different energy.
The collaboration has been five years in the making, after Dean and Aidan first discussed tackling the song together in Wellington in 2021. The song, it turned out, was important to them both – with Dean connecting it to memories of his youth and Aidan proudly placing Heaven Is a Place on Earth on her list of “perfect songs in which I would not change a thing”.
“It’s one of those songs where you hear the first note and immediately know what it is,” says Dean. “I didn’t want to modernise it. I wanted to celebrate what makes the original so good, while putting our own little stamp on it.”
