Uncles Releases ‘Garage Pāti’
Following the momentum of breakout singles Tino Kino and Tukua, Māori electronic collective Uncles – comprising acclaimed artists Rei, Swizl Jager, and Plastic Pounamu – return with their latest anthem, Garage Pāti, releasing this Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
Rooted in UK garage rhythms and charged with the group’s signature Hiko (Māori electronic music) energy, Garage Pāti delivers a sharp, dancefloor-ready groove anchored by a roaring bassline built for heavy sound systems. Bilingual rap verses collide with infectious hooks, capturing the energy, celebration and community at the heart of an Uncles show.
The track’s heavy-hitting sound was shaped by Chris Chetland (Kog Studio), Plastic Pounamu and Rei, combining raw low-end pressure with the crisp, club-ready production that has become central to the Uncles sound.
Building on the success of Tukua – which received heavy rotation on George FM alongside editorial support from Spotify’s Waiata Anthems and Waiata Reo Māori – and the baile funk-infused Tino Kino featuring Hohua Sta, Garage Pāti further establishes Uncles as one of Aotearoa’s most exciting new electronic acts, pushing te reo Māori into global club and dance genres.
Uncles will celebrate the release with two shows in Ōtautahi Christchurch: kicking things off at sunrise with a dawn rave alongside The Morning People, before returning to Space Academy for their own headline show.
With further shows across Aotearoa and their debut EP set to be announced before the end of the year, Garage Pāti marks the next step in Uncles’ mission to take Hiko music from Aotearoa to dancefloors worldwide.
