Jesse Will Reveals Fierce, Euphoric Alt-Pop Single ‘Spirals’

Marking a bold return following an EU tour and three emotionally impactful singles in 2025, Kiwi songwriter Jesse Will continues building toward his debut album with Spirals.
Handcrafted in London with dramatic harp, cello & piano by world-class players, the tracks lush, cinematic production, produced by James Kenosha (Birdy, Rhodes), elevates Jesse’s storytelling. A humorous and moving music video directed by Jack Gunn (‘Lovers On Film’) will be released next week.
Opening with a memorable harp glissando, Spirals is a rewarding slow-burn – with disarmingly dark lyrics. The song takes the perspective of an angel – struck through the wings by lightning and grounded on earth – its chest impaled with arrows. What starts as a raspy, almost spoken lead vocal, Jesse’s performance builds into explosive falsettos and bold, cinematic instrumentation, complimenting his imaginative lyricism.
Speaking about the release, Jesse opens up, “Spirals explores the way we avoid confronting trauma until it reaches boiling point – and naturally, the relief that can bring us. For me, that’s what the wings represented – a certain blissful ignorance to the damage I’d allowed to sit unchecked.”
The song reaches its climax as the angel resolves to rip off its own wings and dance onward – experiencing true liberation without them. A euphoric ending and a hopeful statement on the human capacity to be reborn from trauma. As a sonic journey of recovery, Spirals shines with heart and originality.
Off the back of a successful EU tour in May, and building toward a debut album set for release in early 2027, Jesse has three more singles on the way in the coming months. After going viral in 2015 when his soulful rendition of ‘Shake It Off’ was shared by Taylor Swift, the New Zealand songwriter’s voice and lyrical style own a sensitivity which have drawn comparisons to the likes of Damien Rice and Tom Odell. Jesse has been playlisted in Starbucks cafes worldwide, featured on Apple Music editorials and garnered praise from CLASH, Billboard, the Evening Standard, and the Daily Mail, among others. Jesse and his team were recently nominated at the London Music Video Awards 2025 for ‘Best Choreography’, gaining praise for creatively incorporating dance into his live performances.
