A restless, romantic homage to rock’n’roll, the song blends bossa nova-inspired grooves with new-wave textures, soulful sax and classic-rock swagger.
Beginning with sparse, intimate chords, it gradually builds into an energetic chorus erupting into a guitar-driven finale. The light, bouncy verses capture the excitement and uncertainty of romance and the struggles of pursuing a life of music.
The euphoric, infectious chorus is a distinct musical anchor, built around a simple, repeated hook. Dónal pushes his creative boundaries experimenting with sax and keys concocting a real singalong classic rock finale.
Recorded in Wellington and produced by Peter Jamieso the track captures Gunning’s Irish roots and Aotearoa-based sound while showcasing a more vulnerable and adventurous side following the anthemic single “Breathing”.
Known for his high-energy live performances and intangible Irish charm, Dónal knows how to work a crowd. Dónal and his band, The Bucks, will hit the road across New Zealand this summer to celebrate the release of No Other Option.
