Music is a deeply rooted family legacy for this Whanganui-based roots reggae artist. Having performed alongside her father as a founding member of the acclaimed local band NLC, and having shared stages with the likes of 1814, Black Slate, Lion Rezz, Valley Kids and others, Shaye Leo has spent years contributing to Aotearoa’s vibrant reggae scene. Now, stepping forward as a solo artist, her transition is guided entirely by divine timing, artistic freedom, and maternal devotion.

As a dedicated solo mother, her creative purpose stretches far beyond the stage. Her solo work is designed to share meaningful and universally relatable stories. Above all, this music is a gift to her children – a permanent visual and sonic archive ensuring that her voice, message, and presence will live on for them forever.

The Release: Paradise (Out Friday, October 16, 2026)
Her debut solo single, Paradise, arrives on October 16.

Written as a raw, moving exploration of grief, the track captures the weight of loss alongside the comforting warmth of remembrance. Driven by her current journey of learning te reo Māori, she weaves the reo into part of the chorus. The single features the exceptional talent of Brutha Rodz and is expertly polished by industry veteran Canaan Ene, who handled the mixing and mastering. The result is a radio-ready anthem combining heavy emotional depth with a classic reggae heartbeat.
