Cumbia Blazera formed in 2013 at a Sunday Blazers Football Club prizegiving jam. Musical club members performed cumbia rhythms to Kiwi classics, intermingling the different cultures and creating a unique musical experience.
What started as a jam has since grown out of its football boots. Cumbia Blazera have toured NZ several times, played several major festivals, and even toured Colombia (the home of cumbia) in 2017 (including an artist’s residency in Medellín.)
Their first studio album, Don’t Argue with the Ref was released in 2021. Cumbia Blazera are now proud to release their second album – ¡Blaze! – recorded at The Surgery with Lee Prebble in June 2026.
