The Blue Grizzly Band Newsletter Interview
The Blue Grizzly Band

Some of the grungiest blues you’ll ever hear; The Blue Grizzly Band goes from stage to stage blowing ear drums with a whirlwind of heavy blues rock, sexy slow-jams and modern blues funk.
Thanks Aaron for answering these questions:
What can we expect to see from The Blue Grizzly Band over the next year?
We have begun talks with a producer in the US so hopefully if all goes to plan by early next year we will begin taking over the world, one beard at a time!
What advice would you like to give to other aspiring musicians?
Get off your ass and do it, don’t sit their waiting for opportunities to come along get out there and make yourself heard! (also don’t be a dick, the NZ music industry is a small place so if your a GC word spreads and your life will be a lot easier).
Who are your favourite NZ musicians/bands, and why?
So many to choose from! Anybody who gets out there, learns actual instruments, works hard and does what they love gets my respect.
How do you come up with your lyrics?
Music is an extension of self, exploration, and experience. Anything that moves you or has meaning for you can be turned into great lyrics/song, and I feel that is the soul that is missing from most of today’s music.
How do you believe The Blue Grizzly Band fits into the NZ music industry?
Hey, if it don’t fit force it haha.
What is the best part of being a musician?
It’s the coolest job in the world! We’re doing what we love and enjoy, and we get to meet and play with awesome people all the time!
What is your most embarrassing on tour/gig moment?
We did a private birthday party once and there was an older lady there who got quite tragically drunk (open bar) and started trying to grind on us while we were playing and trying to “sing” into the mic’s, it was kinda traumatic until we came up with a brilliant idea and told her to go and use our bassists mic (which we turned off), but watching him get grinded on for the rest of the night made it all kinda worthwhile haha
What inspired you to start The Blue Grizzly Band?
We were all studying together on UCOL’s Contemporary Music Performance course and one of the genres we had to complete was blues, and having always had a lot of love for blues yet never actually playing in a blues band before it kinda sparked the creation of the band, and with every new member we collected the band just got better and better by throwing little bits of our own musical influences into the pot.
How do you keep in contact with your fans?
Social media like facebook plays a big part, but nothing beats getting on the piss with them at gigs.
What rumour would you like to start about The Blue Grizzly Band?
We are actually a collective of Viking gods who have been living amongst you mortals in secret for centuries but all our power resides in our beards, without which we would be powerless to stop the giants from destroying the world with dubstep. Oh and Thor didn’t really have a hammer.. he shreds an axe!

About the interviewer Lisa Jones

I’m Lisa, Muzic.NZ’s founder and manager. I also manage the Aotearoa Music Industry Collective as well as the Aotearoa Rock Community and the Gig Space Facebook groups. Born and raised in New Plymouth, and now based in Palmerston North – I’m married to Adam (our IT guy), and together we have 2 amazing children. Rock is my favourite genre of music, but I enjoy a huge variety of genres from old school hip-hop through to metal, punk, pop, folk and EDM. My advice to NZ musicians is to build yourself a great support network, never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and talk to other people involved in the music industry. And don’t give up.. as long as you love what you are doing, don’t stop doing it. If you believe in yourself, you can achieve anything. — MUZIC.NZ (MNZ) WEB: https://www.muzic.nz/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/muzicnetnz IG: https://www.instagram.com/muzicnz/ YT:
