Another cutting edge artist from the Hit Your Head Music label. SERVO is a punk/rap MC from Napier who has been doing shows since about a year ago. SERVO has put out an album titled ‘Ron Giorgi Park’ which is a mix of 80’s style drum beats, pop-syth bass and rap delivered hard edge punk vocals.
Which NZ artist/band do you think will be a huge international success one day?
I’ll choose three… 1 – The Clerics, noise traps band from Hamilton, they’re the next Scribe. 2 – Tempo 38, that’s my band and we kick ass hard out. and 3 – anything on Wax Museum Records, with the exception of Mike Crook.
Who would you most like to tour with?
Skrewdriver feat. SERVO
With Guests…
Geto Boyz feat. SERVO
What is your most embarrassing concert moment?
Don’t really have any, I make a point of getting pissed before a show to increase my chances but so far no blow outs. I came close at one gig…was doin’ a set at my mates wedding and the best man reckoned I was was too pissed so he switched off my beats and told me to get off, I took his beer and pushed him off the stage then finished my set, it (Servo)seems to be a love/hate thing.
What are you planning on doing during the next year?
Will be putting out another record early next year on Hit Your Head Music & Wax Museum Records. It will probably be an EP, 4 or 5 tracks and maybe with a band, do a video, and a trip to the hot pools in Taupo would be sweet.
How did you come up with the name Servo?
Service Station
What is in your CD collection at home?
Ice Cube, Morbid Angel, 4 Skins, Herbs, Tough, WHAM!, GG Allin, OMC and Elvis.
What advice would you give other budding musicians/bands?
It’s better to do something ‘shit’ that’s good for what it is than to try and do something ‘good’ that doesn’t cut it.

About the interviewer Lisa Jones

I’m Lisa, Muzic.NZ’s founder and manager. I also manage the Aotearoa Music Industry Collective as well as the Aotearoa Rock Community and the Gig Space Facebook groups. Born and raised in New Plymouth, and now based in Palmerston North – I’m married to Adam (our IT guy), and together we have 2 amazing children. Rock is my favourite genre of music, but I enjoy a huge variety of genres from old school hip-hop through to metal, punk, pop, folk and EDM. My advice to NZ musicians is to build yourself a great support network, never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and talk to other people involved in the music industry. And don’t give up.. as long as you love what you are doing, don’t stop doing it. If you believe in yourself, you can achieve anything. — MUZIC.NZ (MNZ) WEB: https://www.muzic.nz/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/muzicnetnz IG: https://www.instagram.com/muzicnz/ YT:
