Album Review: Let’s Talk About Death

Formed in 2013 in New Plymouth, Hateseeker is a hybrid punk rock metal outfit with a twist. While they have been described as sounding a bit like Motorhead and The Ramones they are uniquely their own and bring their versions of hard and heavy riffs with a relentless energy.

Let’s Talk About Death is the band’s third album and its eleven tracks bring a melodic punk energy, but don’t be fooled, there is still plenty of chaos.

While lyrically there is a consistent theme of sex and death (if you couldn’t already tell by the album name) it all fits into one big package perfectly, tying together the band’s strong musicianship and how they present themselves. You can tell there is a solid sense of self with these guys and their experience as individual musicians with this album as I’m sure there is with all their previous releases.

With tracks like (opener) Sweet Decay that has some fantastic classic punk riffs and catchy choruses to the straight up metal behemoth that is Black Night Killer, there is literally a smorgasbord for all palates and they all belong with their own story to tell.

Honestly, this is a refreshingly real and different experience to most other punk-esque offerings that are out there. I love how solid and diverse it is and I’m here for it.

I can only imagine that their live shows are a must see with this kind of energy. It sucks you in from the first track and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to review them.
