EP Review: Black Arts

Gravel Pit are a four piece assault of adrenaline, intensity and speed, but if you thought they were just another hardcore punk band, you need to take another listen.

They formed in 2018, having released their debut EP the same year and they hail from Wellington which is definitely a great thing. There’s no doubting they have a voice and they know how to use it.

Black Arts is their new EP and it packs a punch in just under ten minutes.

If you’re seeking sensible melodies or singalong choruses, you won’t find it here, but you will find great lyricism, unabashed honesty and a layered insight into a band who know their sound and execute it well.

Plus, they have killer riffs and vocalist, Bailey Palmer has such a great tone in her delivery.

There is nothing pretentious here, just a straight up good time.

And when you’ve picked yourself up from the sixth or seventh round, go ahead and give track five Building an extra couple of listens. You won’t be disappointed.
