EP Review: Wake Up The Fallen

The intro features a speech from the film ‘The Great Dictator’ starring Charlie Chaplin. An interesting speech about war which is a classic, very clever and leads on nicely to Bullets (Fuck The System), the second song which is more like what I was expecting from Broken Season.

Heavy guitars with catchy riffs, dark bass, shouting vocals and hardcore drums (with double kick to boot), all very reminiscent of Rage Against the Machine.

The lyrics should say “R18”, as they could be taken offensively if not warned (that’s your warning), especially on 51 Days. Having said that they are very well worded and have a slow rap / metal feel. If you like hearing opinions about religion, weed, war, witches, politics and death you can’t get better than this EP. They are certainly delivering their message in a powerful way, will anyone listen is the big question?

I love the way on Opio how they have incorporated Mark Sainsbury and Campbell Live speeches that work well with the lyrics, go NZ!

I do have to ask, why not add 3 more songs and make it an album? Maybe as to not conform to the standards? A very long EP and very enjoyable, can’t wait to see them live next time they pass through Wellington.

A nice touch with a digital booklet which includes lyrics and some intriguing artwork.

If you like Rage Against the Machine you will love Broken Season. Sorry for the reference again guys, however it is meant as a huge compliment. Rage had many messages saying similar things.
