Mucus Kids

Unabashedly crude yet oddly fantastic. Auckland trio Mucus Kids have released their newest EP, Mosh 4 Jesus and it’s a brilliant assault on the eardrums.

Like bedtime stories, but not really for kids, the short, sharp and dark lyrical content of Mosh 4 Jesus has the power to make you cringe with titles like Masturbation Bloodbath but the feeling is short lived when you are subjected to surprisingly likable numbers such as, Old Man, Cool Van, a song that dare I say almost seems sweet in it’s weird lyrical way.

Vocalist, Loz Love has the style of a demented Karen O of the Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’s and can embody an innocent with a dark presence. For a little lady, Loz Love’ screams, snarl’s and grunts are impressive, and I’m really digging the insane potential I can hear with stand out track, I Stand With A Fist. A dark sludge punk shadow creeping its way into light.

Mucus Kids are guttural in their delivery of a really cool collection that showcases who they are and as the last song ends, I think to myself I’ve just become a new fan.
