Other Ghosts EP Review

Bittersweet expectations - two words that spring to mind on the first listen of Auckland quartet, Five Mile Town.

A strong vibe of Mumford and Sons blends effortlessly with some heavy rock overtones on stand out on fourth track- Cigar and a 78, a stellar song that shows the bands true mark, and by far my favourite. Vocalist, Louis McDonald has a careful sweet melody that is almost a whisper throughout the EP, and shows the depth of his range belting out some awesome rock chops that really does take you by surprise.

If I’m Asleep is another stomper that has an awesome acoustic consistency, followed by a cool guitar solo jam and crashing cymbals – you’re bound to make this one your favourite too. Closing track Headlights is so beautiful and gentle it can almost sum up the entirety of summer.

This is another perfect soundtrack to put your feet up in the sun and let yourself be overcome with bliss. Hearing Louis McDonald’s sweet melody melt into the background, barely a whisper. While the rhythmic snare fades. Watch out for these guys in the near future- a band definitely worth a second listen.
