Suppression @ The Royal 29/06/12

It’s always going to be hard follwing a band like Cage Demise, but I gotta say these guys didn’t do too bad! It did take them a little while to get into the groove of their set but once they hit their sweet spot it was all go, pretty good considering they hadn’t played a gig in months.

As the lead singer was the only one with hair windmills became predominant throughout the performance, with the odd band mosh thrown in between to even things out. Their “sound” seemed to vary to e, but not in a bad way, I could hear influences from old school thrash (which mostly took over the first part of the set) to a more modern groove based tech style later on in the set, throughout which the bassist managed to follow the guitar with ease, seemingly hitting every note.

The guitar solos were wah heavy as to be expected with a lot of bands with roots and influences in that old school thrash sound, and the vocalist managed to tap into (and nail) a variety of vocal techniques, including ACTUAL singing. AS their set progressed into the more groove based riffs I couldn’t help but notice the pit growing bigger and bigger, leading me to the assumption that Palmy LOVES the groove, and now too Supression.
