This week I have had the pleasure of reviewing FreeDay’s debut, ‘Welcome to the FreeDay.’ FreeDay is the brainchild of the talented husband and wife team Glen and Alex Donaghy and their backing band. Bright and refreshing in these dark times, this record ticks all the boxes. Within these twelve songs you will find bright atmospheres, heart-felt lyrics, catchy choruses and layers of emotion.
With a euphoric, hand-in-the-air moment in every track this is the perfect record for anyone with a fond appreciation for uplifting, optimistic pop music and Jesus. For those judgemental few who avoid the contemporary Christian music scene, I urge you not to let religious intolerance hinder your experience; religious overtones aside, this is a commercially viable, easy-listening, pop album, perfect for radio play.
The DVD features a music video to the opening track ‘Meant to Be,’ from legendary Music Video director and producer Ivan Slavov, whose portfolio includes New Zealand celebrities like Opshop, Dane Rumble, PNC and J. Williams. Set on a pier and the surrounding beaches of an idyllic bay the video reflects the feelings of togetherness in the songs lyrics thru the image of Glen forming the chords for Alex as she plays guitar.
