Citizen Audrey is a New Zealand alternative rock and dark pop project from Te Puke, Bay of Plenty, led by vocalist and songwriter Sarah Clumont.

Blending ethereal, radio-ready melodies with electronic textures, cinematic atmosphere and heavy rock breakdowns, Citizen Audrey’s music is built around dramatic contrast. Intimate and moody verses give way to driving rhythms, expansive choruses and powerful screamed vocals, creating a sound that sits between modern alternative rock, dark pop and atmospheric metal. Drawing inspiration from genre-blurring artists such as Sleep Token, Bad Omens, Bring Me The Horizon and Poppy, the project balances vulnerability, melody and aggression without settling comfortably into a single genre.

Citizen Audrey’s songs explore identity, emotional disconnection, resilience and the tension between fragility and strength. Releases such as Anhedonia, Enigma of My State, and Solvitur Ambulando reflect the project’s evolving sonic identity: emotionally direct songwriting presented through immersive, high-calibre production.

The breakout single Enigma of My State gained significant international traction, earning more than 235,000 streams on Spotify and maintaining an extended presence within Spotify’s Discover Weekly ecosystem. This digital momentum introduced Citizen Audrey to listeners well beyond New Zealand and helped establish a growing international audience.

Citizen Audrey’s live show brings the music’s contrasts into sharper focus, combining Sarah’s commanding vocal performance with electronic production, programmed elements and a visually driven stage presentation. Her presence has been described as “a rockstar in a garden”, a fitting reflection of the project’s contrast between softness, beauty and explosive intensity. The project’s debut headline show in Tauranga sold out in advance, with the live performance praised for its energy, vocal range and heavier edge. Citizen Audrey has continued to build regional momentum through further performances and local media coverage, including features in the Te Puke Times.

The release of Solvitur Ambulando marks another step forward for the project. Mixed by UK-based producer Clint Murphy and mastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound, the track combines world-class production with Citizen Audrey’s distinctive balance of atmosphere, melody and intensity.

With a growing live presence in New Zealand and an established international streaming footprint, Citizen Audrey is carving out a distinctive space within the modern alternative music landscape.
