“I’ve made my living from music for thirteen years now, and somewhere past two thousand shows I stopped keeping count.
That’s taken me further than I expected, cruise ship contracts, and touring through Australia, Canada, England and Greece. Playing to rooms that have never heard of you teaches something specific: how to read a crowd quickly, how to lift the energy without forcing it, and when to get out of the way. A wedding asks for all three, usually within the same hour.
These days I’m based in Auckland and travel through Northland, the Waikato and the Coromandel. I play solo acoustic for ceremonies and dinner, or as a duo with Nick under the name Full Send when you want a dance floor. A full band when the night calls for it. Country is where I’m most at home, but most weddings want a wider range than that, and I’m glad to go there.
The part I care most about is the detail work. Learning the song you walked down the aisle to, even if it isn’t in my repertoire. Handling the cues so nobody has to look for a microphone at the wrong moment. Reading the room at 9pm and knowing whether it wants one more slow one or whether it’s time to go.
