New Damage

New Damage

New Damage are a high energy rock band with strong melodies, good dynamics and a huge rhythm section. With awesome stage presence, driving vocals and killer riffs they are one of New Zealand’s up and coming rock bands.

Together new damage are Mike Rumping, Shane McGeorge, Alternamule and Jason Wilson and they have become known for their original music and hyperactive stage show. They have played many gigs in Christchurch and around New Zealand. New Damage have supported many well known New Zealand bands including Tadpole, Stylus, Mary, Slim, 8 Foot Sativa, 7 Tongues, Pine, Sommerset, Rubicon and Aussie rockers Spiderbait. They have also been included on the nationally released ‘Brat 2’ and ‘Starfuckers’ compilations.

In 2001 they independently recorded and released a 9 track EP that has received positive comments from both press and fans. In early 2002 they self funded a trip to Auckland to work with Paul Matthews, producer of Blindspott. This resulted in a New Zealand On Air grant for the recording of their single ‘Change’ which was produced by Paul in July 2002. They have also filmed a video for the single, which has been played on M2.

‘Change’ was released on the Indie Hit Disc No. 19 and has received airplay on Channel Z and The Rock. In September 2003 new damage won the Christchurch/Nelson regional final of the Intergalactic Records Battle of the Bands. They traveled to Auckland for a performance on TVNZ’s Good Morning Show and to compete in the national finals. They took away awards for ‘most passionate performer’ (Mike) and ‘best bass player’ (Jason).

Since January 2004 New Damage have made their base in Auckland where they expect to find greater opportunities and the chance to widen their fan base. They take pride in their live performance and also hope to bring their music to a wider audience through more radio airplay and television exposure.
