NVO first discovered his musical talent during his years at Papatoetoe High School. In 2006, he entered the Play It Strange National Songwriting Competition with a classmate, and their track Southside Party placed in the top 40.

From that point forward, NVO began carving out a music career, starting with beatmaking and producing from his bedroom between 2007 and 2010.

In 2010, under the name Envioso, he recorded his first mixtape BrainDamaged under the guidance of Impakt, who introduced him to the world of live performance.

Between 2011 and 2012, NVO experienced what he considers the peak of his early artistic journey. During this period, he performed at gigs, recorded new music, collaborated with other artists, travelled across the country, and created The House of Joseph EP, which features well‑known tracks such as Elders and Tino Rangatira Boy.

From 2018 to 2020, he collaborated with Ngāpuhi artist Phulaphekt, resulting in two albums: Kaupapa Driven 1 and Kaupapa Driven 2. These projects showcased their shared passion for te reo Māori and music.

In 2025, NVO released four new songs and secured his first-ever NZ On Air funding.

In 2026, he released his first single supported by NZ On Air, titled Pakanga, along with a music video scheduled for release on Matariki Day. NVO plans to create a bilingual album and continue his mission to uplift and proliferate te reo Māori in every space, ensuring its vitality for future generations.
