Originating from New Plymouth, Taranaki, Sclera have been playing together since the age of thirteen. After years of lineup and name changes, they can now confidently call themselves Sclera.
As a modern Metalcore/Djent band, Sclera draw significant inspiration from early Thornhill and Loathe records. Their influence can be heard throughout Sclera’s music, particularly in the rhythms and tonality of their songs. These inspirations work in tandem with the band’s tight playing and huge stage presence, both of which are key to their performances. This presence also shines through in Sclera’s recordings, supported by their ability to mix and master their own music through the audio production degrees held by members of the band.
“Having to mix our own music is important to us because we believe there is a special kind of authenticity in recording your own music. That leads into another big part of our band’s morals, as authenticity is special to us – especially in this day and age.”
Authenticity is central to Sclera’s music. Many of their songs explore personal struggle and self‑identity, and by writing about these themes, the band is able to share their own sense of authenticity with their audience.
