Māori artist Tohu continues to carve his own path in Aotearoa’s music scene, bringing together te reo Māori, English, hip-hop, soul and reggae to create music grounded in whakapapa, identity and lived experience.
His music is deeply connected to who he is – drawing from whānau, whenua and the stories passed down through generations, while bringing those kaupapa into a contemporary sound.
Tohu has built a growing catalogue of bilingual waiata that move between melodic vocals, rap and contemporary Māori sounds.
His previous releases include Nōku Nei Te Aroha, which reached #19 on the Hot NZ Charts, and Tū Mai Te Reo, which reached #9 on the Hot NZ Charts and #3 on the Te Reo Māori Charts.
His single Whakapapa Driven featuring A-Kla$$ was proudly supported by Te Māngai Pāho, further establishing Tohu as an artist using music to celebrate Māori identity, language and whakapapa.
