Originally formed in New Zealand in the early 2000’s, Tourist established themselves as an ambitious and distinctive rock band, combining strong songwriting with a powerful live presence. Over the course of their first chapter, the band earned NZ On Air support, commercial radio playlisting, chart success including a #1 on 95bFM, and opportunities to perform alongside major international acts including UK rock giants Snow Patrol.
Their music also travelled well beyond Aotearoa. Led by songwriter, guitarist and vocalist Peter James Rudd, Tourist secured US publishing with Heyday Media Group, with their songwriting reaching audiences in New Zealand, Australia, UK, Europe and the United States. Their music was licensed for major Hollywood film productions, including the cult feature The Butterfly Effect. Rudd was also a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, further recognition of the band’s songwriting credentials.
A significant milestone in the band’s early career was the release of their critically acclaimed EP’s and full length album Minutes Last For Years, recorded in rock band Manic Street Preachers Welsh studio with award winning producer Greg Haver. The album produced the hit singles Do You Feel The Cold? and Did You Kill Your Love, helping establish Tourist within New Zealand’s rock scene and contributing to a growing international audience.
The band went on to perform extensively throughout New Zealand and internationally, including shows and touring in the UK, while continuing to develop a reputation for melodic, guitar-driven rock with an expansive sound.
After a hiatus, Tourist have reconvened with a renewed lineup and new body of work. The return brings together the experience and songwriting identity of the original band with a fresh energy and contemporary production.
The first release from this new chapter is new single My Everywhere. The track draws on the band’s established strengths – guitars, melody, atmosphere and anthemic songwriting – while moving the sound forward.
More than two decades after Tourist first emerged, the band returns with a substantial history behind them and a renewed focus on the next chapter.
