Zola Nova is New Zealand-born neo-soul/pop singer and songwriter. Originally from Auckland, Zola spent her childhood between the buzz of Hong Kong Island and Aotearoa’s wild west coast beaches. She first discovered music after listening to her Dad’s old records – Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Frank Sinatra – and became fascinated with music as a vessel for emotion.
She describes her music as dream-like, resonant, intimate and thought-provoking. Zola Nova means ‘New Earth’ in Latin, and themes of transformation, ancestry, and femininity are big parts of Zola’s life and music. Having lived and played her music all over the world – from London to Berlin, Beijing to New Zealand, Zola continues to be inspired by the idea of evolution, and new forms of identity – where we come from and where we are going. Now returning to New Zealand, Zola presents her debut EP Bliss Land, featuring seven tracks in a soulful ode to life, love and the cosmos.
