Living in Lyttelton, Brougham Street was travelled almost every day by And$um (Sam Dunlay), and his newest album explores various journeys taken throughout his life. Tracks detailing an early morning drive to work, Ubering home from a party, or a late night drive reflecting on life, each song is written from a different perspective, exploring life’s ups and downs, challenges and adventures.

Late Night Down Brougham is home to intimate stories of navigating life changes, celebrating successes and paying homage to sombre moments. Written over a multi-year period, the album encapsulates a range of emotions and feelings, leaning into jazz influences and featuring live saxophone from fellow Christchurch musician Jimmy Rainey.

Speaking of the significance of location, And$um explains, “Living in Lyttelton, Brougham Street was what connected me to the world. I’d driven that street so many times and for so many different reasons that it feels like a part of me.

Late Night Down Brougham is an ode to Christchurch, specifically my view of it. It reflects the highs and lows that I’ve had since leaving high school, and everything I’ve had to deal with.”

An established force in Aotearoa’s hip-hop scene, And$um is known for his unique blend of introspective lyrics, layered textures and intricate melodies. Raised in Lyttelton, an eclectic port town in New Zealand’s South Island, he is one of the most prolific hip-hop talents in the country, with his following growing exponentially both locally and internationally.

Making a name for himself across major streaming platforms with more that 500,000 combined streams, his music has regularly been featured on leading editorial playlists including New Music Friday, and was cover artist for Spotify’s +64 Flow. In 2020, And$um won the RDU Student Radio Magnet Award for Best Electronic Song.

Late Night Down Brougham will be available on all digital platforms from Friday 8th December, 2023, with an album release show at Darkroom on the same date, tickets available from Under The Radar.
