Announcing Donell’s ‘Divine Timing’ – A Poised Debut EP
Donell, a rising voice in Wellington’s underground Hip-Hop scene released his debut EP, divine timing on 23 July 2025 across all streaming platforms. Donell’s debut offering is an energized revival of traditional Hip Hop – blending soulful samples, live instrumentation, gritty drums and carefully crafted lyrics that play out like a long-overdue catch up with an old friend.
divine timing is an important contribution to the resurgence of lyrical rap delivered over lush production and the growing neo-soul influenced wave. divine timing sits comfortably within this movement, offering six tracks that emphasize narrative depth, relatable content and honest reflection.
Donell is a Wellington based artist who credits the rich storytelling traditions of his Sāmoan ancestors as an inspiration. Since late 2017, Donell has been one half of the NZ rap duo ‘DONBIZZY’, releasing multiple mixtapes as part of the ‘You Can’t Beat UnderWelly on a Good Day’ series. From 2022, Donell switched his focus to creating and releasing solo music which saw releases ‘Hall of Fame’ and ‘Fatal Attraction’ becoming the foundation for a growing catalogue.
