As Colour Fades Release Comeback EP ‘Mirror ≠ Self’

Auckland metalcore quintet As Colour Fades return with their new EP Mirror ≠ Self, their first extended release since 2012’s In Division and the first since reforming in 2022.

Mirror ≠ Self marks a significant chapter in the As Colour Fades story. The six-track EP explores themes of self-reflection and personal growth. Blending elements of metalcore and post-hardcore, Mirror ≠ Self shifts seamlessly between aggression and melody, a combination captured perfectly on the lead single and title track.

“It’s a reflection on the years that the band was on hiatus,” says vocalist Conin Bowker. “Time spent growing up, adulting, losing passions and finding them again.”

In an effort to constantly push personal boundaries, the creation of this EP was handled entirely in-house. It was recorded predominantly at ‘Shore Junction’, Conin’s workplace on Auckland’s North Shore. Guitarist Garian then stepped up to handle the mixing process before Conin finalised the master.

On the mixing process, Garian said, “This is the first time that I’ve mixed for a proper release beyond a single and I’ve learned a lot through the process. It was a real challenge getting a polished sound while maintaining the authenticity of the songs, which have an old-school quality to them. I’m pretty stoked with how it turned out!”

The current line-up sees original vocalist Conin Bowker joined by Garian Leighton-Anderson (Guitar), Georgi Dobrev (Guitar), Chris Horsley (Bass) and Ross Chambers (Drums). Together they maintain that while the sound has evolved, the As Colour Fades message remains the same.

In support of the release, As Colour Fades will be performing alongside Crooked Royals as supporting acts for August Burns Red on the Auckland leg of their ‘Season Of Surrender Tour’, at Powerstation on October 8th, 2026. Plans are also in the works for a run of our own release shows in the coming months.
