Baitercell and Timmy Schumacher are proud to present the 21st anniversary re-release of The Wall of Bass Technique. An album that helped change the landscape of local dance music, delivered the most played track on Alt/Dance radio in 2003 [Lay It Down] and the second most in 2004 [What’s Down Low], as well as a #1 on the world breakbeat charts!

Re-mixed, remastered, and even more Wall of Bassey for the modern era, it brings back the intersection of Breakbeat, Hip Hop and Electronic music – with feature vocalists Bex Riley, Mareko, Flow on Show, Jordan Reyne, Niku Ahu, members of Nesian Mystik with Tyna and J.B., and Four Corners.

This is the album that received a 6 out of 5 review, got to #37 on the national albums charts, had people jumping on stage to stuff cash in their pockets during their live performances, and smashed pavs at peaktime mainstage at all the big festivals of the times, as well as got plays for What’s Down Low from the likes of the Freestylers and Chase and Status.

Baitercell and Schumacher helped pioneer the NZ Dance scene movement, and have since kept the adventure as entertaining as possible. Baitercell, aka Chris Chetland, is still working with many of NZ’s top artists, regularly having top 20 credits in the album and singles charts, and recently working with the Pakōpakō collective on Pacific-originated dance music, and released Hoea Rā with Just2Māori and Kākano with Huia.

For the album re-release, there is also a new mix/version of the #1 played track on alt/dance radio in NZ – biggified and further glorified for the modern audience. Lay It Down blends the best of big beats, electro synth lines and a vocal to chant along to, all encased in a pineapple lump soaked avalanche of Reese Bass.

This tune was the most popular dance music track on NZ radio for the year, and is still getting played on dance floors around the world; it just does the perfect satisfaction job at any party, just like sausage rolls. And now the new version is bigger, bolder and readier…

Lay It Down is part of the groundbreaking and NZ Music Awards finalist album The Wall of Bass Technique re-released on its 21st anniversary.
