Blake releases ‘Birthday in Isolation’ Music Video and Single
After returning to New Zealand from London last year, Blake releases her first single and music video of 2021 with indie-pop anthem Birthday in Isolation. The track has subtle electronic elements layered with organic instrumentation, with Blake’s distinguishable soulful voice taking centre stage for the first half. The introduction of electric guitar and rock orientated drums lead the song into an anthemic post chorus, before coming full circle to just vocal and piano. The initial song idea was created in a hotel room on the first day of her two-week managed isolation in Auckland. She explains,
‘I set my self a daily song writing challenge when going into quarantine and ‘Birthday in Isolation’ was the first song I wrote. The song captures the bittersweet feeling of being grateful to be home and safe in New Zealand but also missing being with friends and family on my birthday.’

Blake has spent the last 5 years living in the UK, honing her songwriting craft through top line writing for Hospital Records and also working on her own material. She was nominated for ‘Best Vocalist’ at the Drum and Bass arena awards in 2017 and has amassed over 5 million streams across Spotify alone on tracks she has featured/collaborated on. She released her first EP Home Truth in 2019, which was described by Robin Murray from Clash as ‘meaningful pop’ and is now in the throes of working on her second EP to be released towards the end of 2021.
