With his upcoming fifth album, The Prose and Cons, Captain Festus McBoyle set out to explore as many genres as possible. Having already tackled Pop, Folk, Rap, Reggae, Music Hall, Beat Poetry, and even Audio Stories, he had dabbled in just about everything. However, in the midst of this musical adventure, he suddenly realized he had neglected his roots – Rock and Metal. It was time to right that wrong and throw some goats in the air one last time.

After ensuring the SPCA understood his intentions were purely metaphorical, Captain Festus fully embraced the Rock persona – black tee, black jeans, leather jacket, studded cuffs, studded belt, and, of course, a Marshall amp cranked to 11. The song needed to be educational, convincing, and, most importantly, not too scary for kids.

Choosing slugs as the subject, he picked up his trusty three-stringed guitar, Old Ned, enlisted the talents of iconic Kiwi Metaller Scottie Burst on bass, set up his 70’s Premier rock kit, and took great care to protect Colin the Sheep’s ears with high-quality earplugs – because looking after one’s hearing is paramount, especially for young listeners.

With all the elements in place, ShowPony Studios was prepped for the controlled chaos ahead. The final result was a refreshing blast of energy – every box ticked, every goal met. Grateful for the incredible team of metalheads who helped bring the vision to life, Captain Festus McBoyle found himself fully immersed in the world of Rock once more.
