High-energy 2-piece Empress have dropped their first single Hōhā from their forthcoming second EP. Hōhā is Empress’ first release since their 2021 lockdown EP Trash Dynasty.

Band members Craig and Lora have spent the past 5 years refining both their sound and the art of in-between song banter while supporting artists such as the Bleeders, Head like a Hole, Elemeno P, Dartz, Wendyhouse, Big League, Repairs, Swallow The Rat, Tooms, Half/Time , Planet Hunter and many many more who have toured to Kirikiriroa.

Empress’ new offering presents an unapologetically raw yet calculated sound, trading in the complex timing changes and groove switches of their previous work for a consistent, riff-heavy fuzz vibe.

Recorded at front-woman Lora’s former workplace, the Porch Studios, with legendary producer Regan McKinnon and mixed by Scott Newth of Blkhus productions (who’s previous credits include The Datsuns) the band’s production and performance has levelled up significantly (from a lockdown cassette release mixed on logitechs).

Empress are looking forward to leaving our home sweet home of Last Place as we celebrate this release in June with a run of shows in Kirikiriroa, Tauranga and Tāmaki Makaurau.
