“Going Easy is easy listening, breezy, flowing – but we’re playing with the person’s feelings a little bit and giving them a bit of a rib. It’s the classic ‘hand out the window – road trip song. But twisted to be even cheekier and more upbeat. upbeat, fun and even cheeky in some ways.. ” says Foley.
Co-written by Foley (Ash Wallace and Gabe Everett) with Josh Naley (AKA *Wells) who also produced the track; mixed by Pedro Calloni (Chappell Roan, Alex Warren, GAYLE) and mastered by Grammy-nominated Nathan Dantzler (Sabrina Carpenter, Niall Horan, Jonas Brothers).
Going Easy joins the EP’s already-released singles Suckerpunch, Honey and Cinematic, which have collectively clocked up hundreds of thousands of plays on streaming platforms, while receiving widespread radio support from ZM, The Edge, More FM and The Hits. Honey reached the #1 spot as the Most Played NZ song across NZ radio, and also peaked at #12 all airplay.
It makes for an impeccable collection of pop from Foley. The duo explains that the concept for Like An Actress is a nod to the song Cinematic, which is all about love and hope. “This EP is very much about love, but it’s also about manifesting good things in life – cultivating strong friendships, enjoying the good times, celebrating loyalty, being hopeful, and believing you deserve good in your life. It is rooted in positive energy.”
Foley adds that during the writing process they used a lot of visual devices to bring Like An Actress to life. “For the song Breakfast for Dinner we wanted it to feel like something from the soundtrack to Dawsons Creek and nostalgic to that period. So we had a big image of the cast up in the studio to keep us in the zone. It was a good laugh! For other tracks we referenced old 90s and 2000s romcoms to put them in a nostalgic context. It really helped us get our heads into the music and palette of that period.”
Foley will be opening for fellow Kiwi artist Muroki in Sydney at The Lansdowne Hotel on April 2 and in Melbourne at the Wax Music Lounge on April 4. Meanwhile, local fans should stay tuned for news of an upcoming Foley headline NZ tour.
