Greta van den Brink is back with Valentina, proving once again how her fluid rock ‘n’ roll artistry thinks in scenes as much as songs. Her latest track, Valentina, is about escapism, inspired by Greta’s own idea of what Hotel California might look like. The song follows Valentina (a ghost Greta believes writes with her) after she kills a lover in a motel room and goes on the run, eventually finding an isolated hotel filled with people escaping their own pasts and drowning their stories in spirits.

A femme fatale with a taste for tequila, Valentina becomes a character study in running from who you were while searching for somewhere to disappear. Greta van den Brink is a visual writer unafraid to move beyond neat genre lines, with her background as an actress and stunt performer informing her cinematic approach.

Valentina follows Greta’s debut album This Wasn’t Planned and a sold-out headline release show in Tāmaki Makurau earlier this year.
